Survivalism And Working To Keep It Unnecessary

I occasionally have posts about preparing your family for if things ever go down the toilet as a society.  I think it is only common sense that every family has enough supplies to get through several weeks in the case of a devastating hurricane, flood, earthquake, etc.  I think it is also a good idea to prepare for even worse things, such as an EMP, currency collapse, massive terrorist attack.

You all know the saying, Hope for the best, Prepare for the worst".  Well, survivalism fits in with that view very well.  There are tons of sites out there to help you get started, even in a small way.  At least be prepared for a few days!

Having said that, I think the ultimate survival plan is working to make sure you never need those survival skills or supplies.  Obama and the other statists (those that believe in the supremacy of the state) are driving us towards the cliffs.  Spending money we can NEVER PAY BACK, gutting the Constitution, weakening our missile defense, enabling our enemies, destroying our freedoms, etc.

Get involved!  Help take the country back from these collectivists.  Help install people who believe in freedom, a strong dollar, defense of the homeland, responsibility, and the U.S. Constitution.  And that DOES NOT mean just electing Republicans.  Ninety percent of the existing republicans are just as bad as the democrats.  They need to go, too.

Hope (Work) for the best - Take our country back
Plan for the worst - Get your family prepared in case You-know-what hits the fan.

A strong, prepared country is the ultimate in survivalism.

What if you spend all this time and money getting prepared and things are great forever?  Then you are very well prepared for the inevitable weather or earthquake-related catastrophe, AND you have invaluable skills and tools for almost anything that comes your way.  Plus, you can sleep better at night knowing you have done all you can to keep your family safe.

Cap & Trade - A True Monster

The more I read about the details of the Cap & Trade Bill, the more terrifying this abomination becomes.  The scope of control by the federal government is incredible.  Below are links to posts on two very good blogs.  They write about some areas of the bill.  Your jaw will probably hit the floor on some of the edicts in this bill.

Powerline - Down with King Cap-and-Tax

Q&O - Happy “Dependence” Day

Bottom line - This bill will not have any impact on climate change.  It will severely damage our economy AND OUR FREEDOM!

The Senate is our last hope to kill this monster.  Some have said it will never pass the Senate.  I disagree.  The statists now have 60 votes, a super-majority, so they CAN pass it on their own.  However, you can always count on some RINOs, like those two idiots in Maine, to vote for this garbage.  Write your Senator and demand they vote against the bill.

Read the two posts I linked.  It won't take long and they will open your eyes to the utter insanity of this bill.

EMP Follow-up

Just a quick follow-up to yesterday's post on EMPs:

North Korea Fires 7 Missiles Off Eastern Coast

"North Korea fired seven ballistic missiles off its eastern coast Saturday, South Korea said, a violation of U.N. resolutions and an apparent message of defiance to the United States on its Independence Day."

Hmmm.  They have nukes.  They are working hard to improve their missile technology.   Nope, nothing to worry about here.  Move along.

EMP A Growing Threat - Congress Ignorant, Or Stupid, Probably Both

The threat of an ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) is still very much a threat, and a growing one at that.  Here is the an explanation from the article "America is Vulnerable to An Electromagnetic Pulse Attack":

"If a small atomic bomb were to explode 400km above Chicago it could fry all electronically-based technology from Chicago to Dallas affecting the infrastructure of all major cities on the east coast and as far as South Dakota.

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack is as instantaneous as an atomic bomb blast. It moves like a wall of energy overloading, and destroying all computer based technology. Such an attack would shut down the power grid.  Air traffic would be grounded, telephone, internet and other communications would be shut down. America would be reduced to the agricultural economy we had in the 1800s."

As our enemies perfect their nuclear weapons and missile capability (North Korea and Iran come to mind) their ability to launch such an attack increases every day.

However, for the attack to be successful, they need to detonate a nuclear weapon hundreds of miles above the USA.  Seems to me we should be working 24/7 on our missile defense shield.  This would be the same defense shield Obama promised to cut!

"EMP is not a sci-fi War of the Worlds theory. EMP is a legitimate weapon, and a legitimate threat to the security of our nation."

We CAN shield our electrical components and vital equipment against an EMP.  Yet, from my reading, we haven't done this.

(Read the article for some great information on how we CAN protect the country.)

Given the severity of the threat, and the relative ease of our enemies accomplishing it, this should be our number one priority.  Take the wasted money being spent on an imaginary threat like "climate change" and spend it on a real threat to our survival.

"If America were hit with an EMP over the course of one year 90% of Americans would be dead. America would be reduced to third world status."

The fact that the President and Congress have not made this a priority, even though government reports have detailed the threats, is unforgivable.  This is a preventable catastrophe.  Unfortunately, I do not expect our current government to do anything about it.  They are too busy with Hope & Change, not Preparation and Reality.

John Bolton On Israeli Strike On Iran

I saw this opinion piece by John R. Bolton discussed on the Atlas Shrugs site.  The piece is entitled "Time for an Israeli Strike?".

John Bolton was our Ambassador at the U.N. for a while.  I think he was the best Ambassador we ever had there in my memory.  He has been dead on about events in the Middle East.

"With Iran's hard-line mullahs and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps unmistakably back in control, Israel's decision of whether to use military force against Tehran's nuclear weapons program is more urgent than ever."

"Accordingly, with no other timely option, the already compelling logic for an Israeli strike is nearly inexorable. Israel is undoubtedly ratcheting forward its decision-making process. President Obama is almost certainly not."

Obama seems to think we can still talk to Iran, even after the fraudulent election and the ongoing rioting by the people.  Obama has even said we may just have to live with a nuclear Iran.

Israel doesn't seem to like the idea of a regime that has sworn to eliminate Israel from the face of the earth having nuclear weapons.

"Those who oppose Iran acquiring nuclear weapons are left in the near term with only the option of targeted military force against its weapons facilities."

Israel will have to take care of themselves.  Obama has no interest in Israel.

Keep yours eyes open on this one.  An Israeli strike will result in muslim retaliation.  Their biggest weapon against us is oil.  I am sure they will use it.

Senator Al Franken - 60 seats

Well, Al Franken finally wormed his way in a senator.

"Democrat Franken wins protracted Minn. Senate race"

"Franken's victory over Republican Norm Coleman gives Democrats 60 Senate seats, the critical number needed to overcome Republican filibusters. When Franken is seated, which could come as early as next week, his party will have a majority not reached on either side of the aisle in some three decades."

No way to sugarcoat this thing.  A clown is elected to the Senate, which is only fitting since most of current senators are idiots and clowns themselves.  However, now they have their 60 votes.  This means they can truly do anything they want.  We have seen what they have done in only 5 months.   The damage to the country has been horrendous, and their true dreams of "Climate Control" and government health-care are still to come.

Make no mistake.  We are now RULED by the most statist government in our history.  (The statist believes in the supremacy of the state.)  They believe in total government control of your life.  They WILL destroy the economy, and your freedom.

2010 is critical.  If we can reduce their control in D.C. and state capitols in 2010, we have a chance.  If not, well, go visit those survival sites on my sidebar and start preparing now.

Pat Condell On The Burka

The video below says it all for me as far as the modern practice of muslim women wearing the burka.  I guess I am intolerant about it, but I don't care.  Listen to Mr. Condell.  His words speak for me, as well.

Why do I harp on this issue? It is all about freedom and liberty for EVERYONE, including women!

Obama's "Preferences" In Rulers

You have probably seen the headlines about the unrest in Honduras.  Obama has come out strongly on the side of the "ousted" President.  This puts Obama in company with Chavez and the other tin-pot dictators in Latin America.  Not everything is as the press and Obama would like you to believe.  It appears that the ousted President was trying to pull a "Chavez" and become something of a dictator.  Honduras' Supreme Court ruled his action illegal and ordered the military to arrest him.  Then new elections are to be held.

Powerline has a great post that fills in the details entitled "Coup are you?".  It also provides links to other confirmation of how Obama picked the wrong side.

Why is this important?  It shows you the preferences of our President.  He seems to get along really well with all the tyrants in the world, yet show no tolerance when freedom is advocated by the masses, e.g. Iran.

Follow-up To Getting Involved

I was doing some more thinking on the quote by Friedrich Hayek in the post below this one, entitled Individual Involvement In Government.

I think, perhaps, the individualists in this country, the successful entrepreneurs, the stay-at-home moms who believe in freedom, and all the other Americans who believe in limited government have some explaining to do to our children.  And maybe even apologies.

Over the decades as we have been busy working our tails off as families and individuals, playing by a set of rules laid down by the Founders, we have not been paying enough attention to the "rule-makers".  Over time a certain type of person, the statist, has taken over the making of the rules.  This person believes that government is the answer to everything.  They actively seek out government positions to make sure government sets the rules.  They actively seek out positions in the press to mold public opinion.  Over the past 75 years or so they have been very, very, busy implementing their beliefs.

In the meantime, the "producers" in this country, disdainful of government, have chosen to actually work for a living and depend on themselves and families to make our way in the world.  We have not been active in government.  We are now experiencing the results of our neglect.

The statists have reached their zenith at this point in our history.  For that, we may need to apologize to our children.  They will be the ones paying the consequences for our neglect.  At the same time, we need to start fighting back against the statists.  As much as it pains us, we need to get involved in politics, both national and local.  We need to regain control of the rule book.

A simple way to look at the mess today, but sometimes simple is all you need.  Think about it.

Individual Involvement In Government

Below is a quote from Friedrich Hayek in The Road to Serfdom.  It is not a "quick glance" kind of quote.

"To imagine that the economic life of a vast area comprising many different people can be directed or planned by democratic procedure betrays a complete lack of awareness of the problems such planning would raise. Planning on an international scale, even more than is true on a national scale, cannot be anything but a naked rule of force, an imposition by a small group on all the rest of that sort of standard and employment which the planners think suitable for the rest.

We shall not rebuild civilisation on the large scale. It is no accident that on the whole there was more beauty and decency to be found in the life of the small peoples, and that among the large ones there was more happiness and content in proportion as they had avoided the deadly blight of centralisation. Least of all shall we preserve democracy or foster its growth if all the power and most of the decisions rest with an organisation far too big for the common man to survey or comprehend. Nowhere has democracy ever worked well without a great measure of local self-government, providing a school of political training for the people at large as much as for their future leaders. It is only where responsibility can be learnt and practised in affairs with which most people are familiar, where it is awareness of one’s neighbour rather than some theoretical knowledge of the needs of other people which guides action, that the ordinary man can take a real part in public affairs because they concern the world he knows. Where the scope of the political measures become so large that the necessary knowledge is almost exclusively possessed by the bureaucracy, the creative impulses of the private person must flag.

What he is saying, I think, is that when the mass of people do not get involved in politics at the local level, over time a small subset of the population that DOES get involved will rise to rule as they see fit from a distant, huge bureaucracy.

We, the people who believe in freedom and liberty, need to start getting involved!  Yes, it goes against our nature to get involved in government.  But if we don't get working fast all we love WILL be lost.

The Fall Of Democracies

A most excellent post over at Gates Of Vienna - "Converting Manna To Gall"

It is about the fall of democracies.  Lengthy, but good points in it.

Perhaps You Should Really Start Preparing For The Worst

You know the saying, "Hope for the best, Prepare for the worst."  Well......that may be your favorite phrase soon, and the most important.

Why?  Because the Federal government is instituting policies that, in the best of times, would be job-killers and economy-crushers.  And they're doing it in the midst of an ongoing deep recession/depression!!!!!  I cannot think of a single thing they have done since the election that is not the complete opposite of what they should be doing.

So, pay a visit to these two sites I have mentioned previously:

The Survivalist Blog

SurvivalBlog

They are also on my left sidebar.  They provide incredible advice and information on how to prepare for darn near any "bad thing" without being ridiculous.

And if the economy miraculously turns around and we are in a utopia?  Then you are still in great shape and can deal easily with any hurricanes, earthquakes, ice-storms, blackouts, etc.  There is no downside to proper preparation.

The feds and state governments are really messing things up and WE will have to pay the price of their incompetence.

Cap & Trade Closer To Reality

The Cap & Trade legislation has won the first round.  "House Democrats win key test vote on climate bill"

"House Democrats narrowly won a key test vote Friday on sweeping legislation to combat global warming and usher in a new era of cleaner energy. Republicans said the bill included "the largest tax increase in American history."

The vote was 217-205 to advance the White House-backed legislation to the floor, and 30 Democrats defected, a reflection of the controversy the bill sparked."

Our only hope is that if it does pass the House, it will die in the Senate.  If not, get set for much higher energy costs, higher costs on ALL items you need, gas prices through the roof, more higher unemployment, power blackouts down the road.  The list goes on and on.

This is the height of foolishness.  The damage that it will cause will be devastating to the economy.  All on top of unsustainable government debt and deficits.  The lunatics have truly taken over the asylum.

UPDATE:

Well, it passed the house 219-212, with 8 republican traitors.  Our only hope is the Senate at this point.  Call your Senator to stop this outrage.

Socialized Medicine

This government run health-care scheme is truly a monster.  It will destroy the greatest health-care system in the world, causing rationing of care, higher costs, less choice and less freedom.  Below is a video from Conservative's For Patient's Rights:

Cap & Trade Vote Soon

I read that the Cap & Trade bill is up for a vote very soon.  I already wrote my liberal congress-critter and my one liberal Senator.  It won't do any good since they are both brain-dead liberals.

Powerline has a graph up that shows which states will "benefit" from the Cap & Trade bill, and which will pay.  Of course, when it comes to individuals, we will ALL pay, dearly, in both dollars and freedom.

Cap & Trade is an idiotic scheme by the federal government.  Here is a great line from the Powerline post:

"Waxman-Markey would be a very stupid bill even if it were true that 1) the earth is getting warmer, 2) human activity is mostly responsible for climate changes, and 3) a warmer earth would be a bad thing. Given that all three of these premises are false--we cannot, in fact, control the weather--Waxman-Markey is a suicidal monument to human folly."

This bill will mean higher costs for everything, not just energy.  (It takes energy to make everything else!)  Think about this.  If you were a company looking to expand an existing plant, or build a new one, would you build it in the USA, or in a country where Cap  & Trade doesn't exist?  Just wondering.

Yet another disaster brought to you by the Obama Administration and the liberals in Congress.
