Actually, I do believe they ARE that stupid & naive. I saw this headline and thought I would read it - "Afghan leader appeals to Taliban to lay down guns". Check out this line:
"President Hamid Karzai spoke three days after he and Western backers agreed at a conference in London to create a more comprehensive program to bring Taliban insurgents over to the government's side in order to reduce violence that has raged in recent years."
It seems our brilliant leaders in the western world are planning on giving the Taliban a whole boatload of money if they will lay down their arms and quit blowing us up.
Ummmm...isn't that called "tribute"?
Tribute -a stated sum or other valuable consideration paid by one sovereign or state to another in acknowledgment of subjugation or as the price of peace, security, protection, or the like.
There was a quote by U.S. Rep. Goodloe Harper in 1798 about bribing other countries to not attack your interests:
"Millions for defense but not one penny for tribute"
(I always thought Jefferson said it, but, apparently not.) In any event it is a brilliant and strong statement.
And one more thing. It would 't work anyway. If I were the Taliban I would gladly take the money and everything else they gave me, sign any piece of paper they put in front me, and keep right on doing what I was doing.
